Artist Statement

As an artist, I specialize in the area of drawing with concentrations in printmaking, painting and performance. Research engages and informs media choices and processes but it always begins with drawing and larger-than-life relief prints are often the end result. The process of printmaking allows me to print multiples of an original image and instructs me to reevaluate the process of drawing.
As a contemporary artist, my work is concerned with distorted images of identity, sexuality and gender representations imposed by societal ideals and a Catholic upbringing. My images of women are both provocative and confronting and act as commentary on how women are viewed in contemporary culture. My research is influenced by feminist theory, gender studies and everyday life.
