Skinny Gaviar
Skinny Gaviar, 31, is a visual artist, a real Russian and a linguist-gang-agley. With no art background, skill and understanding of why people like it, Skinny creates his work in Photoshop using a regular computer mouse as a brush. All images are based on photographs.
Experimenting with digital manipulation first occurred in 2005, after graduating from Chuvash State University with a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Intercultural Communication. Keeping it as a secret hobby for a few years gave him enough time to master the technique that was soon exposed to a fellow artist and friend Andy Ewen, who encouraged his young Russian comrade to come out of the digital closet and promote the work. The work itself, often described as pop surrealism for its unconventional use of colors and themes, depicts states of mind, extreme emotional experiences, childhood nightmares and real stories.
Today, with hundreds of original images and magazine illustrations worldwide, he keeps, in a rather nonchalant manner, working hard slouched over his trusty laptop.
