A Curator’s Collection
I’ve been collecting art since the early 1970s and have picked up the pace since I began curating the gallery at Promega Corporation in 1995. Most of my acquisitions reflect the work I’ve done with artists from various shows. My collection is also composed of items I’ve acquired from auctions, estate sales and second-hand stores.
‘A Curator’s Collection’ began with a visit from my friend Danny Kahrs. As Danny walked around my home in Tempe, Arizona during one of his visits, he asked about the art on the walls. After telling him a few stories about the art I collected and the artists who produced them, I began showing him some of the items I had stored away. Danny suggested I create an exhibition comprised of the artwork he saw in Tempe and the pieces I have stored in Wisconsin. I told him I would do so if he agreed to curate the show and provide his perspective of what was most interesting. This exhibition is thus the product of this collaboration.
By sharing the many stories regarding my acquisitions, I hope to bring the artwork to life and provide a glimpse into what Danny Kahrs found to be unique and interesting from my collections.
