As a long time resident of Madison WI, my heart is rooted in the upper midwest. The perspective that this region brings seeps into my work and mentality. This connection to the land has yielded an ethical approach to building art, giving priority to local and reclaimed materials. My training took place during a ten year apprenticeship with artist Steven Spiro. I am committed to fusing art and design to help build better more livable public spaces. Much of my work is produced through commissions, and is in collections nationally.
From design inspired by organic forms to the use of reclaimed materials, I pose the question: What is our place in the natural world? My art rises from a necessity to respect, conserve and preserve the environment. When I compose my work I seek to create a balance of materials, textures and colors that truly ring like a correct pitch. Humans need to feel connected to nature and when this happens we live and feel better. I build art that is a piece of this puzzle, bringing my distinctive interpretation of the natural world indoors. Our lives benefit from this sense of connection to nature — we yearn for it. My artworks invite the viewer to take a breath for a moment, to experience a personal attachment to their memories of the natural world. When we fall in love with a work of art, it will continue to give back to us. To live with art is to live well.
